2010 Hobie 16 Nationals - 9th-10th October. The weekend was blessed
with unseasonal temperatures giving us a beautiful warm sunny weekend. Brighton
Sailing Club took 9 boats and about 30 members including children. There were 3 races and on both days the wind was predominantly F4 with some strong gusts and occasional lulls. The fleet consisted of 19 boats including youth squad sailors from Pevensey bay. Needless to say the youth squad sailors took 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Toby took a respectable 7th with Graham close behind in 8th. Every competitor finished all 6 races, no retirements, no DSQs. Well done to all. The weekend was great fun with a strong sense of "team" from the Brighton contingent.
Official report is

19th-20th June: The Lesley Winter Regatta - sponsored by Caffyns.
Some of the best sailing so far this year. The unpredictable northerly winds provided
challenging sailing as the direction and strength varied from one minute to the
next. Most crews took a swim at some point over the weekend but you might like to
ask Jim how he acquired a 3rd sail while upside down ! Fleet racing was close and in the catamarans the lead boat changed several times in every race. At the end of Saturdays racing only a few points separated first and last positions. On Sunday evening Simon distributed £250 Musto vouchers donated by Caffyns to the winners. Results can be seen here The Lesley Winter Regatta is held in memoriam and all entry fees are donated to the Elimination of Leukaemia. This year we raised around £200. Many thanks for all those that did race duties and to those that provided lunch. |

29th November 2008 - The Annual Dinner Dance 2008. BSC celebrated
the end of their season in style recently with their Dinner Dance at the Old Ship
Hotel. Black ties and posh frocks were the order of the day as a full house turned
out for some great food and drink. The silverware was handed out to the worthy winners
of series, regattas and one-off races, but even more exciting was the combined auction
and raffle to raise funds for the local RNLI team in recognition of their dedication
and bravery that any of us may need someday. Overall the club raised over £1300
on the night with over half of that being bid for a pair of holidays generously
donated by Simon Morgan at WILDWIND. BSC would like to say an enormous thank you
to WILDWIND and all their other sponsors, a full list of whom can be seen here...

8th November 2008 - Bonfire night accompanied by the Ginger Flowers.
Another fantastic family event for the sailing club. The fireworks were spectacular
and the band were rocking. If you missed the visual spectatcular of our bonfire
and fireworks set in front of the surf generated by the F8 winds with the moonlight
shinning on the surf - well you missed it. A big thanks to all who organised food, fireworks, bar staff, collected money etc. |

I don't know if you remember the weather on the beach but it was blowing 30-40Knts,
the kind of weather Scottish Trawler men say "Och nooo, I'm for anoother pint".
(more to follow when I have all the facts/dirt)

to the comedy night on Saturday you missed a stonker!"The Noise Next Door" are a great bunch of five young men who turned out a hilarious evening of improvised comedy at Brighton Sailing Club. With some very random suggestions from the audience and a little assistance from Mike Miller and his torch the full house raised the roof with laughter on what was undoubtedly one of the best social nights we've had at BSC. Brian, Commodore BSC. |

2008/06/01 - Well, the rain may have only just stopped and the sun may not have been shining but the Sunday picnic sail was great fun. We've had picnic sails before but the difference here was an emphasis on getting the kids on the water. To that effect, with 5 cats and 4 monos, we set off for Morocco's beach with about 10 children, most of whom had a go at helming and trapezing. The boats pulled quite a crowd on the Hove beach while we had lunch with other members who came down to meet us. We arrived back at BSC around 15:00 just as the sun came out to finish off a lovely Sunday. Feedback from my daughter, a rare thing from a teenager, bordered on enthusiasm, an even rarer thing! Combine this with the fact that we kept the kids off their Nintendo's for a few hours we should consider the day quite a success !! Let's do that again ! (pics here)... |
