15-16/08/2009 - The Lesley Winter Regatta 2009 - Two Days of fabulous sailing! Thanks to everyone involved, we had a couple of excellent and very close racing days sailing. I think it will be a few days before the smiles (and stiffness) have worn off! We raised £225 for the Elimination of Leukaemia Fund. Many thanks to Chung, Matt Ray, Barry, Dave Statham, and Rhodri on the rescue boat, to Penny and Tom as OODs, Paul Tofts and Jenny as Timekeepers, with assistance from Rhodri and Veronique. Thanks also to Penny (Saturday) and Brian (Sunday) for the lovely lunches. Thanks to Karen and Aimi and Virginia for setting up the barbecue for Saturday night. Matt took some great video footage on Saturday and I understand this will be shortly available on the website. Thanks to everyone for sailing. Congratulations to Graham and Jane for winning and to Toby and Roger who came a very, very, very close 2nd all down to the final race. Congratulations to Roy who sailed 7 out of 8 races being the only monohull represented on Saturday for three of the races. Great to see so many people involved. Results are here Our thanks to Caffyns of Brighton for the fantastic sponsorship prizes. |

4-5th July 2009 For those of you that missed it you definitely
missed out! Paddle video
(watch here) The Paddle Round the Pier weekend was huge on Hove Lawns this
year and BSC were definitely part of it due to Karen and John on land and Tom, Mark
and Ali afloat - A big thanks guys. A great fun race was had in near perfect conditions
right along the beach in front of the "Paddle Village". Prizes were dished out to
the lucky winners and a few beers were consumed. Don't forget the Regatta on 18th
& 19th July, the opportunities to enjoy our lovely club don't come much better.
Cheers Brian BSC
A cracking show. Where else could you pay good money to have five charming young lads come into your own club, rip the p*ss out you and leave you rolling in the gutter (or is that aisles?) If you haven't yet seen the guys and want to know more about them, you can visit their website here... |

29th November 2008 - The Annual Dinner Dance 2008. BSC celebrated
the end of their season in style recently with their Dinner Dance at the Old Ship
Hotel. Black ties and posh frocks were the order of the day as a full house turned
out for some great food and drink. The silverware was handed out to the worthy winners
of series, regattas and one-off races, but even more exciting was the combined auction
and raffle to raise funds for the local RNLI team in recognition of their dedication
and bravery that any of us may need someday. Overall the club raised over £1300
on the night with over half of that being bid for a pair of holidays generously
donated by Simon Morgan at WILDWIND. BSC would like to say an enormous thank you
to WILDWIND and all their other sponsors, a full list of whom can be seen here...

Another fantastic family event for the sailing club. The fireworks were spectacular
and the band were rocking. If you missed the visual spectatcular of our bonfire
and fireworks set in front of the surf generated by the F8 winds with the moonlight
shinning on the surf - well you missed it. A big thanks to all who organised food, fireworks, bar staff, collected money etc. |

With some very random suggestions from the audience and a little assistance from Mike Miller and his torch the full house raised the roof with laughter on what was undoubtedly one of the best social nights we've had at BSC. 2008/06/01 - Well, the rain may have only just stopped and the sun may not have been shining but the Sunday picnic sail was great fun. We've had picnic sails before but the difference here was an emphasis on getting the kids on the water. To that effect, with 5 cats and 4 monos, we set off for Morocco's beach with about 10 children, most of whom had a go at helming and trapezing. The boats pulled quite a crowd on the Hove beach while we had lunch with other members who came down to meet us. We arrived back at BSC around 15:00 just as the sun came out to finish off a lovely Sunday. Feedback from my daughter, a rare thing from a teenager, bordered on enthusiasm, an even rarer thing! Combine this with the fact that we kept the kids off their Nintendo's for a few hours we should consider the day quite a success !! Let's do that again ! (pics here)... |
