|
It is a club rule that all persons wear adequate personal buoyancy at all times when on the water. With the exception of windsurfers, adequate buoyancy is as described in the EU regulation CE 50 Newton personal buoyancy aid. Sailors are required to keep out of the “swimming area” at all times and comply with the Brighton Council by-laws. |

|
1. Rules
1.1 All races will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in the
Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
|

|
2. Notices to Competitors
2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice
board located on the rescue boat hut door. |

3.Changes to the Sailing Instructions
3.1 Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before
09:00 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of
races will be posted by 11:00 7 days before it will take effect. |

4. Signals Made Ashore
4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed at the Race Control Hut
on the beach and associated flagpole. |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
5.3 If races are not completed as scheduled or if the race officers
or Sailing Committee considers it unlikely that races will be completed as scheduled,
then lost races may be run as additional races on the following Sunday (within the
series). In the event of a race postponed to the following week, this will be publicised
in accordance with section 3. |

7. Racing Areas 7.1 The racing area will take place in the vicinity of the area between the 2 piers in Brighton with the exception of long distance races and pursuit races. |

8. The Course
8.1 The course will be decided on by the Officer of the Day and
will be displayed on the course board at least 30 minutes before the published start
time.

9. Marks
9.1 Marks will be inflatable Day Glow orange cylinders, round pink
day glow buoys or the following charted navigational marks:

10. Areas that constitute obstructions 10.1 The following areas are designated obstructions: West Pier and all areas formally covered by the West Pier and Steamer Jetty. 10.2 The area’s restricted by sea front By Laws, commonly known as “The Swimming area”. 10.3 Palace Pier 10.4 The Groin at the Eastern end of the Club Beach to it's low tide extent. |

11. The Start
11.1 Races will be started by using rule 26 with the warning signal
given 5 minutes before the starting signal. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
12. The Finish 12.1 The finish line will be between the flagstaff and the finish mark. OR The finish line will be a line between the centre of the committee boat, or its main mast, as appropriate, and a mark. An inner distance mark may be used. |

13. Penalty System
13.1 The Scoring Penalty, rule 44.3, will not apply. |

14. Time Limit
14.1 Boats failing to finish within 20 minutes after the first
boat sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes rules
35 and A4. |

|
15. Protests and Requests for Redress
15.1 Protest forms are available in the club bar. Protests shall
be delivered there within the protest time limit. |

|
16. Scoring
16.1 All series shall be scored on 50% of races in run, rounded
up, the remainder being discards. |

17. Safety Regulations 17.1 Check in and Check out: Helms must sign a declaration at least 15 minutes before the advertised start time indicating that they have adequate insurance that they and their boats are suitable for the conditions and that they agree to abide by the rules.
Helms must also sign a declaration after each race to indicate that the course has
been sailed correctly and the sailing instructions obeyed. For races run from a
committee boat the helm must also declare the number of laps completed. Failure
to comply will result in disqualification. |

18. Radio Communication 18.1 A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. |

19. Prizes
19.1 Prizes will be awarded to the crews placing first, second
and third in each series. |

20. Disclaimer of liability 20.1 Competitors participate in the Race entirely at their own risk. See rule 4. Decision to Race. Brighton Sailing Club, its officers and members will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the racing. |
