Brighton Sailing Club Code of Conduct

Brighton Sailing Club aims to provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable environment for everyone participating in sailing and associated activities.

Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all members, visitors, volunteers and guests of the Club.  The Code of Conduct applies whether at the Club, or away from the Club where there is a clear connection to the Club and on Club Social Media.

General Principles

All persons involved with the Club are expected at all times to:

  • Follow Club rules & policies

  • Support an environment where all are respected: free from bullying, harassment, discrimination and intimidation.

  • Act with honesty and integrity.

  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment.

  • Be respectful of Club spaces and property, or the property of others.

  • Not bring the club into disrepute with members, external partners such as the Council, Seafront Office and RNLI, and the general public

Safety

Members and visitors must:

  • Comply with Club safety requirements and relevant laws and regulations.

  • Take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others.

  • Report significant safety concerns, incidents or hazards promptly.

  • Attend any mandated safety training

Concerns and Complaints

A breach of this code of conduct could be dealt with by approaching:

  • The person allegedly in breach directly

  • The Safeguarding Officer or Committee Member

  • The Secretary, to raise a formal written complaint as described in the BSC Constitution

Serious or repeated breaches may result in action by the Committee, up to and including expulsion from the club.
