YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS RESCUE HELM & CREW

  1. Ultimately, you are responsible for the safety of all those afloat

  2. Your priority is to rescue people, before rescuing boats

Preparation

  • Arrival

    • Rescue Helm & Crew should arrive at least one hour before the start of racing, and report to the Officer of the Day (OoD)

  • Conditions

    • Know the forecast weather, wind and tides before launching

  • Clothing

    • Helm & crew must wear appropriate gear, including buoyancy aids; and be prepared to enter the water

  • Preparation

    • The boat must be prepared and checked according to the checklist in the next tab

  • Fuelling

    • Must only be carried out in the open air, outside of safety hut, when safe to do so and not in the presence of children or members of the public

  • Launch

    • The boat should be launched at the earliest opportunity so that it is available for course-laying

  • Returning

    • Make sure everything is put away tidily and locked up – keys back in blue box.

    • At the end of activities, store radios in the safety hut where they should be placed in charge

    • Flush the engine with fresh water

    • Tighten the petrol tank air inlet

WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON

THE KILL CORD MUST BE WORN
